Female Twin Suri Llamas!
We are delighted to introduce our twin female suri llamas!
Born on Labor Day, 2006, two females were delivered within
15 minutes of each other by Dr. Megan Campbell and Brent Walker,
Director of Operations at WoodsEdge Wools Farm. This is the
first set of female twins to be born at WoodsEdge in all our
years of raising llamas and alpacas! Shortly after the mother
went into labor, we knew we had twins as both heads were in
the birth canal at once!
The twins weighed 12.5 and 13 lbs respectively, about half
the normal size of a llama born to a maiden mother. (Yes,
that's correct, these twins were Moonstone's first crias!!)
Despite that, IgG's were 1672 and 1078 without plasma or supplementation!
The first born twin suri llama is vicuna colored; we are
currently calling her "Suri Fawn." She has a grey
face with a white blaze across her forehead, and lighter colored
undercarriage as typically seen in vicunas. The second born
twin is a grey, white and fawn tri-color suri llama who we
are currently calling " Suri Fancy." She also has
a white blaze on her forehead.
